I need to learn how to take better pictures of this baby-- he's always moving!

The All Clear
Had my 1st followup today about the "goomba", and the antibiotics seem to be doing the trick. Thank goodness... that's one more thing we didn't want/need on our plate.
I have another follow-up on Wednesday, but for now, onward and upward!

What's Up Doc?
Today was a day of doctor appointments... this morning for me (ugh), this afternoon for Robbie.
He was mellow yellow with the doctor (which is funny after having a quite... vocal... afternoon), and has gained another 3 ounces from his birth weight. He should be gaining a little more, so we're going to amp up the formula supplements a little. My milk isn't cooperating, especially now that I have a little fever with the abscess.
(I have learned how to spell abscess today).
Nakey baby on table picture!

Things You Don't Want to Hear at a Doctor's Appointment
Things You Don't Want to Hear at a Doctor's Appointment:
#1: "Let me get a couple other doctors in here to look at this."
I'm sure everyone has seen the Friends episode with the 3rd nipple?
That's how my doctor's appointment was this morning.
It turns out that I didn't pull a stitch. I've (nunquam securus!) managed to develop a really really gross abscess that has absolutely nothing to do with my c-section incision, except that they are in the same universe.
Don't worry, I won't subject you to a photo... but the bad news is, I'm on antibiotics six times a day, and if it doesn't go away by next Wednesday, I have to have it surgically removed. SURGICALLY REMOVED.
Gross.
My doctor (who I love), called it a "goomba", and had two other doctors and two med students in to take a look and discuss what it was.
If I have to have a freaking abscess drained, I definitely am cursed!

More Visitors... and an Update on Mom
Robbie has had tons of visitors for his 2 weeks of life. I think it is fair to say that more people have come to our house in the last 10 days than have been here in the five years we've lived here.
I had a wonderful surprise when my friend MCB traveled up with her family to meet Robbie. They had planned to come when we were in the hospital but they were thwarted by my early delivery, the earthquake and hurricane... so decided to make a family weekend out of it for Labor Day. While I'm no use right now in being out and about as a city tourguide, I was relieved and thankful to make a trip outside the house last night to meet the family for dinner. MCB is one of my Greenville girls that have been through every step of this pregnancy with me, and to be able to have she and Robbie meet in person was wonderful.
The Hipps, however, win the award for longest travel to meet Baby Edwards.
They've returned from 9 months in Singapore to get their lives in order before they head back for another couple years. They came over today with Lisa and some barbeque, and we all had a great time.
And yesterday, Steve, Linda and kids joined us for breakfast before the Edwards got on the road back to Marion. Our boys are only three months apart, and the guys are already angling to have them in the Citadel class of 2032 (Kilo company!)
It's been a full two weeks, and time to get started on living our new normal.
As for me? I'm actually feeling the worst I've felt since the day after the c-section. I don't know if I popped a stitch or haven't been taking my medicine enough (or if I've been over doing it)... but I feel really really uncomfortable. To the point that I thought about calling the doctor.
But my appt is in a couple days, I'm not running a fever, and nothing looks infected... so until something starts falling out of my gut, I'll wait until then. I'm having a tough time remembering that I did have major abdominal surgery.
Otherwise, we're looking forward to getting into a routine in the next couple weeks. This baby-parenting thing is HARD!

Every once in awhile it is that good
Susann and I work in a city and a profession that can be given to overstatement.
Having said that having my parents and my sister in town this weekend was awesome. Seeing my Mother and Father hold their grandchild for this first time was amazing and watching Paula change a dirty diaper was breathtaking - how is that for hyperbole?
As everyone reading this blog knows my Mom has been waiting for a grandchild for somewhat longer than she anticipated. Both of my parents were very happy to meet Robbie but my Mom was over the moon. There were times over the last several days that I had to peel Robbie out of his Grandmother's arms.
Dad did great even though I am sure he would happy if he never had to climb anymore stairs and Paula was a champ - helping at every turn while having to sleep on the pull out sofa with not one word of complaint.
Of course in true Edwards' fashion we had a challenge while we had Mom and Dad and Paula in town - the AC went out - but other than that the weekend was one I will never forget. I am no longer the apple of my Mother's eye and believe it or not I am just fine with that.
