Hongray

We have had our first 2nd trimester bout of "if I don't eat now, I'm going to be homicidal".

Ah.  Pregnancy.

The Fourth in Duck

Duck-- they like them a 4th of July.

Me?  I don't like it when its 95 degrees at 9am waiting for a parade on the 4th of July.

The stroller patrol was out in full force.  The streamers were on the bikes and every emergency vehicle in town showed up.

The band had four members.

But when in Rome?

Sweat with the rest of the Romans.

Urgent Care

What's a vacation without a little trip to urgent care.

Or two little trips to urgent care.

Between the fun and the fireworks, the pool and the beach, the family games of euchre and the airing of the greivances, Robbie and I still managed a case of pink eye each, an ear infection for him, and a simus infection for me.

Needless to see, we're probably pretty lucky that we've made it 10.5 months without an ear infection, and only Shawn coming down with pink eye, but it did kill a much needed romantical date night with my husband.

One of the things we haven't been so good at is getting out.

With babysitters running 15-20 bucks an hour, and my bedtime running around 9:30pm, I'm not much of a date these days.  While I miss the wing nights and margaritas on the La Loma patio sans kids, the bottom line is that 90% of the time, I'd rather just take the Robster with us.

Luckily we have great friends who don't mind a 10 month old in tow.  But I have a feeling as we are steaming towards full on toddler, that's apt to change soon.

When we did finally get out to dinner on Thursday, we went to a much less fancy and much more family-friendly restaurant, and I spent half the time thinking "we should've brought Robbie with us".

I need to learn how to turn off the Mom and turn back on the wife sometimes.  Shawn deserves it.  I need it.  We'll get there.

Robbie?  Just give him some shade and some milk and he's good to go.

Vacation at Duck - Kitty Hawk

We spent the last week at Duck and had a wonderful time with Bookie (Grandmother), The Grand PooBah (Grandfather), Aunt Emilie, Uncle Kevin and our amazing nieces - Abby and Kate.

We got to go the beach everyday and usually followed that up with a swim in the pool - for once in my life I can brag that no one got sun burned!  Robbie started off the week a little scared of the water in both places (to be fair the ocean was chilly) but was doing great by the end of the week.

Bookie and PooBah were kind enough to watch Robbie so Susann and I could have a date night and we had a great time.  We don't get to do this very much so this night was very much appreciated.

Duck is about ten miles away from Kitty Hawk so we loaded up the cars and took the kids down to see the place where the first powered flight took place.  I got to go to Kitty Hawk when I was five and sat through the same lecture (maybe not exactly but it had to be close , right) about the flight.  I thought that the building that had the mock up of the original airplane was much bigger then and we got some great pictures of Robbie and me in front of the plane.  I had a great childhood and it really pulled at the "Daddy" strings in me to be able to share with Robbie something that my Father shared with me.  I look forward to doing this many, many more times.
