A Family Invasion

And I mean invasion in the best possible terms.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of my mom and dad, sister, brother-in-law and niece, and Shawn's mom and sister.... all expected tomorrow for baby shower weekend.

We're hoping everyone is here to see us, and not our not-quite-put-together-still-a-long-way-to-go-house.

We still have a washing machine sitting on our back porch.

Not to mention lots of ripped out drywall and ceilings.

Some rooms are half-painted.

Others not started at all.

But they are here to see us, not our raggedy house.  Right?

Due Date

My due date is one thing I am SURE about.

Sure, babies come early, they come late.

But when people ask me if my due date is for sure, I laugh a little.

Trust me folks.  I got pregnant on December 1st, 2010.  At 2:30pm.  With a doctor, nurse, and ultrasound technician present.

I could probably make a basketball team with all the witnesses to Baby Edwards coming to be.

It doesn't make for great cocktail party conversation though.

So I'll just stick with: "August 24th.  We're pretty darn sure".

A New Crib... And 33 weeks Pregnant

Dictionary...  crib [krib]–noun

1.  a child's bed with enclosed sides.
2.  a stall or pen for cattle.
3.  a rack or manger for fodder, as in a stable or barn.

Urban Dictionary...

1. home, domicile, or dwelling
Dang dude...your CRIB is phat YO! (Your house is very pleasing to the eye; Contemporary flare, yet structurally sound. May I have a look around my good man?)

All that to say, we have an assembled crib and changing table.

Like a child's bed, not a cattle pen.  And our crib/home/domicile/dwelling?  Also still a work in progress.

After some minor cursing, some strong directions following, and some valiant efforts by me to sit two floors away and not "help", Shawn did an awesome job getting Robbie's crib ready to go.

We now have paint.  We have somewhere for baby to sleep.  We have a few outfits for him to wear.

What else do we need other than baby??

Tomorrow marks 33 weeks pregnant

We're very much looking forward to the friends and family coming in town this weekend for the baby shower.  It's all becoming more and more real each day.

And a 33 week baby in utero?  The length of that 17 inch laptop screen you are looking at right now, and the weight of a large pineapple.  (Well, a pineapple is 4 pounds, and baby E was almost 4.5 last week.  He should be gaining up to 8 oz. per week for the rest of the pregnancy!)

Bombs Over Brookland...

DC... enjoys the fireworks.

The Edwards men... they enjoy the fireworks.

Susann?  Does not enjoy the fireworks.

Daisy?  Does not enjoy the fireworks.

We all enjoy the United States of America, however.

So for tonight's picture, a photo from last year's 4th that we spent on the Dawkins' and Hitts' boat.  The best Fourth in recent memory.

Progress, I promise II

Well we have had lots of fun the last several weeks with the hot water heater problems and the pipe bursting - life would be no fun without some curve balls (that's what I tell myself).  Oh yeah, and we have a baby coming in seven weeks and house guests in one week.

We are SLOWLY getting things back in order with some progress this weekend.  We managed to find a used glider chair out in Fairfax and our buddy Steve was kind enough to let me use his truck to go pick it up.  Mission success - got a great chair for a very reasonable price.  (It needs new slipcover though... Susann does not love the yellow).

Next job was a MAJOR purge of the basement storage room.  There a lot of stuff in there from the previous owners - mostly painting stuff - that is now gone.

Then my mission today was to put the changing table together - after a couple missteps (they looked like the right screws) I got that taken care of and I have to say it looks pretty nice.  I saved the crib for tomorrow .  I have to pace myself.

While I am making some progress we are struggling a little with the home repairs.  We hope to have those done by Thursday of this week because we have house guests coming in next weekend for Susann's baby shower.  We shall see.  Since the majority of the damage was in out laundry room we are currently without a washing machine.  I see a laundry road trip in our future.

Susann is doing well and has been as cool as a cucumber during all of this.  I knew it when I married her and it has only been verified everyday - I got a good one.  Little Robbie - you are a lucky man my friend.
