One Month Photo

We were trying to figure out how to take the "monthly" photo in a truly Edwards way.  We'll be taking a photo on the 22nd of each month to see how Robbie grows.

I think you'll agree this is a very Edwards way to document:

Ace = 1 = one month.

Crafty, no?

Baborexic

*Warning to male friends and relatives, this post may include the word boobs*

So... mother's intuition isn't all that wrong.

I just felt like our "little peanut" was still pretty peanuty.

We had Robbie's one month appointment today, and my boob-fears were realized.

He's not gaining weight like he's supposed to, and my body just simply isn't making enough milk to keep him on track to grow.

Topping the scales at 8 pounds now... he was supposed to be closer to 8.5 by this appointment. So in comes the dreaded F word.

The formula.

We've been using it.  I don't have a problem with supplementing with it.  But now we basically need to quadruple what we had been giving him.

Motherhood doubts?  I have them.

Have I been starving our poor baby over the last four weeks?  Should I be waking him every 2 hours to eat?  Is he laying there hungry thinking, "why won't this woman give me more damn food!"

Will our kid be the slow and sick one because he didn't get the goodies he needed through exclusive BFing?

This is my only job right now.  To feed a baby.  And I can't even do that right.

Poor Baborexic.

Friends in High Places

Today Robbie was lucky enough to meet Senator Gillibrand on an outing with Mom.

Senator Gillibrand is by far one of my favorite Members.  She comes from a family with a long line of political involvement, and I've followed her career since she arrived in DC.  When Secretary Clinton resigned to take her position at State, Senator Gillibrand was appointed to her position.  Smart pick!

She's a working mom with two little ones of her own...

She's smart as hell and verbal on so every issue that I've spoken with her on...

... and for Robbie's sake, she's the Senate originator of legislation to promote a tax credit for infertility treatments.

This is the legislation the RESOLVE organization was pushing back on their Hill day in the spring, and I was able to thank her for her leadership on the effort.

We need more Moms in Congress!

The Meetup

Well, I did it.

Put myself out there to meet some new moms.

I sent out an email to the neighborhood listserv looking to see if there was anything existing for newish moms.  Long story short, I got several interested emails and last Friday I organized a meet up at the local cupcake shop for whoever wanted to stop by.

TWELVE women and their babies did.  That's twelve families... free mid-day on a Friday... all with babies under four months old.

Add in the fact that lots of them were cloth diaperers, exclusive breast-feeder, non-pacifier users, and I was a little out of my element.  I was trying to not feel judged or bad-parenty.  And I think I succeeded.

I use formula some because I HAVE to.

I use a  pacifier because I WANT to.

I use disposable diapers because, well, I don't do well with gross.

We're going to make the meet-up a weekly occurrence for those that can make it.  I see some potential friendships in the crowd.  And I need to get over my hangups.

Cystal City Sports Pub + Robbie = CLEMSON VICTORY

We decided to go watch the game at our favorite sports bar (it is non-smoking) - Crystal City Sports Pub (CCSP).

We watched a great game and Robbie was a champ.  He slept through most of it and when he was awake he was taking it all in.

Robbie appears to be that lucky charm that Clemson has been without for a long time.

I have feeling this will not be his last trip to CCSP.

We might well be setting in the same table for next weeks game against Florida State = If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Hipster T

Shawn has Robbie dressed in a Star Wars hipster t-shirt today.

Questionable.
